SNM-VFI Frame Interpolation: Smoothness Is Not Recorded Truth
Generated intermediate frames may improve appearance while adding unrecorded content. Keep originals and check boundaries, occlusion and audio timing.
Revision note:2026-09-30T15:36:32Z | Reconstructed and revised; Checked optical flow and confidence fusion; explained training-free and added evidence-footage and audiovisual timing boundaries. Publication dates must follow actual publishing records; source dates are not article publication dates.

How the research interpolates
The SNM-VFI paper combines pretrained optical flow and video diffusion. Nonlinear motion predictions and confidence maps guide intermediate frames and combine reliable structure with generated detail in uncertain regions. Training-free does not mean free computation, unrestricted licensing or no review. VQOS did not run the method.
Establish the purpose
Distinguish smoother playback, slow motion and missing-frame repair. Each can affect time interpretation or delivery specifications. For evidence of events, equipment behavior or exact movement, generated frames are not original recordings. Retain an untreated version and disclose processing.
Inspect vulnerable regions
Review hand contact, abrupt turns, occlusion boundaries, thin lines and text against source frames. Play continuously, then inspect frame by frame. Smoothness can conceal a plausible but incorrect object position. Specify which invented details are unacceptable.
Review time and sound together
After interpolation or slow motion, check lips, subtitle timing, beats and sound events. Verify final frame rate, duration and playback speed, avoiding different preview and delivery settings. Keep the original treatment as a fallback.
Read VQOS services and specify permitted interpolation, purpose and source handover in your brief. Benchmark results do not guarantee invisible repair for every clip.
